I paint original pet portraits in oil. I work to capture each pet's unique personality in such a way to be appreciated both artistically and emotionally. These are not digitally reproduced. They are painted on canvas using traditional oil painting methods.
Photographs: I work using photo references, the more the better. These can be sent to me digitally or through the postal mail. Photos sent by mail will be returned when the portrait is finished.
Clearly focussed photographs of your pet are preferred. Backgrounds are not important. Your pet's face is.
Also, it will help to know your pet's personality as well as other preferences you may have (favorite toy, collar, background colors, etc). I promise the finished painting will be a beautiful tribute to your pet and a cherished piece of art. I also do portraits of children.
Completed oil painting will be framed.
PRICES: Head portraits are $350 to $500. More detailed and larger body portraits average $550 to $750. There would be additional cost for portraits involving multiple pets.

Because you know your pet best, the more information you can give will help me paint the best portrait possible. Let me know your pet's personality and what makes them particularly special.
Photographs should be closeup and eye level with your pet. Natural lighting is preferred. I can offer suggestions on getting the right perspective.
If your pet has passed and therefore new photos cannot be taken, I will do my very best with the pictures you may have to create a beautiful remembrance.
For people living in the Milwaukee area, I could take photos if necessary.
Pet portraits are painted in oil. My technique is traditionally artistic with emphasis on capturing each pet's personality. Distinctively rendered, I work to capture the character of your pet.
Your satisfaction is very important. I promise the finished portrait will be a beautiful piece of art.
It takes up to two months to complete a painting. My style is not to rush, but to give the painting time and thought. However, if a portrait needs to be expedited, I can complete it sooner.
I can put your pet into any setting. If there is a favorite chair or couch that your pet enjoys, send pictures of that. If you prefer your pet in the outdoors, let me know.
After the initial under painting is done, I will send you a digital picture. At this point in the process, changes can be made to meet your expectations. Your personal involvement in the painting, while not necessary, is appreciated and can further enhance your enjoyment.
My pet portraits are art and, as such, I take great care to make sure the composition is aethetically pleasing and the finished painting is of museum quality.
osing my first pet Piper was a very sad and emotional time for me. Although I had her for 17 years, they were not enough. She had always been my constant companion and source of great affection. Of course, I thought she would live forever.
At the time, I had very few pictures to remind me of her. The random pictures I had taken of her over the years were not very good nor captured her at her best. I therefore decided to paint her portrait, which was my first pet portrait.
Using composites of the pictures I did have, I put her on the banister of my front stairs--which had always been a favorite perch for her.
I enjoy looking at the portraits I have since painted of Piper. She will always be a part of my very best memories.
